The organisation of the COINT Foundation, with collaborators in different national and international regions, makes it possible for us to deal with the needs of our partners in an integral process: from specific requests, dealt with but our volunteers to a specialised project design process and a highly qualified technical service.

Being a non-profit institution, the Foundation must count on support given by other entities, such as different public administrations in the Balearic Islands, so as to carry out these activities and achieve its objectives.

Activities carried out
In 2006

October 2006: The Foundation was granted a grant from the Island Ministry of Mallorca (Consell de Menorca) to make a Study on “Businesses in Mallorca and their international perspectives”. This analysis has been the basis for future activities and gives a global vision, from a simple perspective, of what internationalisation possibilities Mallorcan Businesses have.

In 2007

February 2007 call, approval in April 2007: Assistance in the presentation of the international cooperation project with UAF (Morocco), submitted by the Manquelepi Network (Red Manquelepi) and part-financed by the Government of the Balearic Islands through the General Directorate of Cooperation.
The project’s main goal is to contribute in the promotion of Human Rights and Equality between men and women and young people who live in the Province of Tétouan (North Morocco).
The project’s main objective is to organise practical workshops on issues such as: human rights, women’s rights, international conventions ratified by Morocco, legislation reforms in favour of the rights of women in Morocco, gender perspective, animation techniques.

March 2007: organisation of the participation in the ProWein Fair in Düsseldorf, logistics and stands, as well as the organisation of the meetings held between the wine cellar owners.

In Mallorca, and following one of the lines identified in the study carried out by the COINT Foundation at the end of 2006, with support from the Consell de Mallorca, we have identified that the wine sector is a very important sector and has a great internationalisation potential as well as a great potential for exporting.

A great number of wine cellars have started to produce very good wines that are bought by consumers in Mallorca and all around the world.  The problem is that many of these wineries are very small, so they don’t usually have the possibility to start up an international adventure.

With the intention of giving support to the wineries and making it possible for them to become part of Gourmet international circuits and be known internationally, the COINT Foundation organised to set up a stand at the ProWEIN fair in 2007, held in the German city of Düsseldorf.

This is one of the most important European wine fairs. On the other hand, a great number of tourists who visit Mallorca come from Germany and many second residences on the island belong to German nationals.

June 2007

The Foundation took part in a co-development project together with the Manquelepi Network and the Town Council of Nueva Imperial. This project was funded by the Government of the Balearic Islands – General Directorate of Cooperation. The COINT Foundation was in charge of:

- Writing the project
- Monitoring and checking the progress of the project

General goal: Improve the economic development of the Municipality of Nueva Imperial, with the consequent impact on the Araucania region, by strengthening it and through activities carried out in two fundamental sectors such as tourism and agriculture. Thanks to the activities of co-development, these activities will also benefit the Balearic Islands, not only its immigrant residents but also this type of rural tourism.

Specific goal: Promote the launching and consolidation of sustainable tourism (through the creation of rural tourism routes that will attract people but it will also be a way to improve the agricultural situation of the area)

October 2007

May 2008
The COINT Foundation submitted a grant application to the “Consell de Mallorca” (Island Ministry of Mallorca) named “Promotional activities of the wines of Mallorca by organizing visits for journalists and German professionals and the publication of a Guide of Mallorcan wines”.
As well as this general goal, the specific goals are the following:

  • Improve peoples’ knowledge of the wine sector
  • Widespread this productive sector and diversify it by converting it into a tourist attraction
  • Promotion of sustainable tourism that respects the environment
  • Improve the commercialization of wine and its distribution channels by opening up the wineries to the German market, thanks to the contacts made during the organized visit and their promotion in the guide
  • Increase the number of people that know the wines from Mallorca and this sector in general

Amongst all of the activities carried out, it is important to point out two:

  • Organisation of a visit: 8 professionals and the press were invited for 4 days to enjoy a visit that resulted in the improvement of the distribution channels of the Mallorcan wines in the German market thanks to the contacts made during the visit between the Mallorcan producers and German professionals. The journalists wrote articles in the press and specialized magazines.
  • Publication and development of a guide of wines in Mallorca: for the preparation of this guide, a Mallorcan professional in the wine sector was consulted so that no aspects were forgotten. This guide will have several innovative aspects:
  • Maps locating the wineries and cellars, not only stating the town they belong to.  The map will show exactly how to get to the cellar.
  • Recommendations given by restaurants that have the Mallorcan wines on their menu.
  • Promotion of rural tourism and agro-tourism in the area.
  • Promotion of the companies/shops that sell products from Mallorca. This has lead to the wine sector being promoted in general and becoming more popular with the people from Mallorca as well as its visitors and potential German tourists. The commercialization and distribution channels have improved thanks to this visit and a list of companies has been made, where these products can be bought and the knowledge of the wine production sector has improved.

The guide was officially presented on the 23rd of August in the DORINT hotel at the Camp de Mar with a wine tasting.  All of the wineries that are included in the guide were present.

Around 200 people attended the presentation. They tasted the wines from Mallorca and were introduced to the new wine guide. They also tasted other typical products from Mallorca.
